The Powerhouse Museum
In 1993, Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum , a museum devoted to the best in technology and design from around the world, commissioned Tom Sparkes to create a TS 5000 Mulga wood oboe with gold keywork to add to their permanent collection. In the museum published book "Treasures of the Powerhouse Museum", they pay tribute not only to the beauty of the instrument, but also to the dual innovations of balancing the keywork on long rods instead of pivot screws and of improving the pitch or intonation of the lowest two keys.
